Waterbury – Bus Passenger Killed By A Car

A pedestrian was killed by a passing car in Waterbury last Monday evening.

At around 8:00 p.m., 30-year-old Mariely Cruz of Waterbury just exited a passenger bus and was crossing the street at 345 Stillson Road when she was hit by a 2015 Honda Civic. Instead of stopping, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. EMS personnel immediately responded to reports of the crash, though Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle was eventually found, and 31-year-old Kristen Mulcahy was arrested in connection to an earlier incident. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash that killed Cruz and the prior incident that Mulcahy was involved in. Officials will provide updates when appropriate.

Pedestrian accidents are always investigated for possible negligence or reckless behavior, and that seems to be involved in this case. Establishing accountability is always a primary goal for accident investigators, and this is important if culprits are to be brought to justice. Not only that, it also enables victims or their families to file for damages if circumstances warrant that course of action.

Waterbury – Highway Crash

State and local officials responded to a highway crash in Waterbury yesterday afternoon.

At around 3:47 p.m., emergency responders arrived on the southbound lanes of I-84, in the area of Exit 19 (Route 8), after receiving reports of a crash in the area. According to them, an unspecified number of vehicles figured in an accident that resulted in injuries. Road crews immediately cordoned off the scene while medical personnel tended to everyone involved in the crash. Authorities were able to process and clear the site less than half an hour later, though the crash is still being investigated. The identities of motorists involved have yet to be disclosed — officials will do so when appropriate.

Processing accident sites on highways can pose risks to everyone in the area, including emergency responders. Clearing these sites as quickly as possible is always a primary objective for them. Having said that, investigators are also given ample opportunities to examine and collect evidence as identifying crash culprits can help state and local officials improve general road safety. This will also allow crash victims to file for damages in cases where their legal counsel determines that as their best option.

Medical personnel have already tended to motorists involved in the incident, and after an inventory of the crash scene, road crews were able to clear the site just several minutes later. Waterbury – Officer Injured By Motorist

A police officer was seriously hurt while attempting to apprehend a motorist in Waterbury last Saturday.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., officers responded to Richard Terrace after receiving reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area. They discovered a driver who was unconscious inside a vehicle. Thinking it was a possible medical emergency, the officers attempted to wake the person. The driver woke up after the doors of his vehicle were opened and started to drive his vehicle. An officer who was standing behind the passenger door was thrown into the vehicle with half of his body hanging out and was dragged by it as the driver attempted to leave the scene. He was eventually thrown off the vehicle as it turned onto Pritchard Road. EMS crews immediately transported the injured officer to the hospital for treatment. After a comprehensive search of the area, 38-year-old Adam Dejesus was arrested and has since been identified as the driver of the vehicle. He is now facing multiple charges related to the incident.

Evidence already available in this case points to reckless or negligent behavior on the part of the suspect. It pays to take note of this and other similar cases because they describe situations that result in injuries to motorists or pedestrians. We need to be aware of our legal rights and options if ever we are involved in similar cases in the future.

Waterbury – Hit-And-Run Suspect Identified

The suspect of a recent pedestrian accident has surrendered herself to authorities in Waterbury yesterday.

26-year-old Dominique Caraway of Naugatuck is currently facing several charges in connection to a recent incident where a 69-year-old pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle. Henry Pearson was crossing the roadway in front of 937 North Main Street when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Caraway. He sustained serious head injuries and died soon after. Caraway initially reported her car as stolen to avoid apprehension but eventually surrendered herself to local police. She has been charged with reckless driving, tampering with evidence, falsely reporting a motor vehicle theft, and evading responsibility for a crash resulting in death.

This case highlights the processes and circumstances surrounding many hit-and-run incidents. It’s important to note that victims of these events (or their families) also have options they can explore, including filing for damages if their legal counsel deems it appropriate.
