New Haven Injury Statistics

According to the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center (CTSRC) and Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), New Haven had the highest number of crashes in the state in 2015 with 8,177 accidents. These crashes resulted in seven fatalities and 2,911 injuries.

In 2014, CTSRC and CTDOT reported there were 6,661 total crashes in New Haven. These accidents included 11 fatal crashes and 1,665 injury crashes.

In 2017, the New Haven Register reported that there were 215 crashes involving pedestrians in 2016, resulting in two fatalities. Whalley Avenue and Foxon Boulevard were the sites of most pedestrian accidents that year.

According to the Connecticut Crash Data Repository at the University of Connecticut, there were 2,444 aggressive driving crashes in New Haven in 2017. These accidents resulted in 189 injuries and three fatalities.

The UConn Crash Data Repository also reported that there were 332 speeding crashes in New Haven in 2017 that caused 81 injuries and three fatalities. That same year, New Haven also saw 83 drunk driving crashes that resulted in two fatalities and 28 injuries.

Hospitals and Law Enforcement in New Haven

Many injuries in New Haven are treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital, but other hospitals in the area include the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital, the Smilow Cancer Hospital, the Hospital of Saint Raphael, the Temple Medical Center, Connecticut Mental Health Center, and the Hill Health Center.

The New Haven Police Department is typically the law enforcement agency that responds to most accidents in the city. The Connecticut State Police may also respond to these incidents.
