Authorities responded to a truck crash in Meriden yesterday morning.

According to officials, a truck swerved off the road and fell into an embankment, resulting in heavy damage and injuries. That said, authorities are constantly working on ways of preventing these crashes from occurring. Identifying their causes is an important step towards this objective. Doing this will allow officials to stop reckless or negligent individuals from hurting themselves or other people, as well as allowing aggrieved parties to file their own claims against these negligent suspects.

Meriden – Vehicle Falls On Owner

A man was killed by his car in Meriden last Saturday morning.

Authorities received calls from bystanders who witnessed a man crushed by his own car while working on it. 31-year-old Milton Rodriquez was attempting to change a flat tire on his vehicle when the jack he used failed. The vehicle then rolled towards Rodriguez, trapping him under the car. People who witnessed the incident worked together to lift the vehicle and free the man. Responders transported Rodriguez to the hospital where he died from his injuries. Officials have investigated the incident and have not discovered any foul play or ill-intent.

This case doesn’t present any evidence that indicates the involvement of other parties and was ruled an accident. Studying this and other similar cases can be useful because it highlights many of the possibilities that can result in injuries or deaths. There have been instances in the past of product/vehicle failures resulting in injuries, so these factors should not be overlooked. The bottom line: victims or next of kin involved in incidents resulting in serious injuries or deaths may have legal avenues at their disposal. Pursuing them with the help of legal experts can be a viable course of action under appropriate circumstances.

Meriden – Father Charged With Manslaughter And DUI

A father accused of DUI in a Meriden crash that killed his foster son has just been charged with manslaughter yesterday.

Back in September, James Bailey was driving on North Wall Street, with 17-year-old Alex Medina in the back seat, when he crashed their vehicle into a pole. Medina was thrown off the vehicle and sustained critical injuries. Authorities initially filed charges of reckless driving, reckless endangerment, assault with a motor vehicle and DUI against Bailey. Median fought for his life for a few days in the hospital. He eventually died on October 2. Due to this, Bailey is now facing an additional charge of vehicular manslaughter.

This case exemplifies the diligence that authorities would always exhibit when investigating road incidents and how suspects/culprits will eventually face charges commensurate to their actions. Obviously, they have to be brought to justice. What’s less apparent are the legal options aggrieved parties may be entitled to in cases where DUI, reckless behavior or negligence have been established. Talking to legal experts should help victims or their families make sense of these avenues.

Meriden – Possible DUI In Recent Crash

Authorities just released more details regarding last Monday’s crash in Meriden that seriously injured a teen.

A 17-year-old was seriously hurt after the vehicle he was riding in, a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder, swerved off the roadway, crashing into two utility poles before coming to a stop in the area of 231 North Wall Street. Officials have now identified 65-year-old James Bailey of Milton Drive as the driver of the vehicle, while the teen passenger is his foster son. The victim hit his head on one of the utility poles. He was transported by responders to Hartford Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. Officials who arrived on-site performed a sobriety test on Bailey which he failed. He was immediately arrested and is currently released on bond. He is facing charges of assault and DUI, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 15.

Driving under the influence is, obviously, a serious offense, and authorities should always assume a strong stance against these offenders, making sure they are brought to justice. The fact that the victim in this incident is related to the suspect complicates this case, but should not detract from the fact that injured parties in this and other similar cases have legal options at their disposal. Victims or their next of kin can consult legal experts to determine what their best courses of action are.
