Meriden – Father Charged With Manslaughter And DUI

A father accused of DUI in a Meriden crash that killed his foster son has just been charged with manslaughter yesterday.

Back in September, James Bailey was driving on North Wall Street, with 17-year-old Alex Medina in the back seat, when he crashed their vehicle into a pole. Medina was thrown off the vehicle and sustained critical injuries. Authorities initially filed charges of reckless driving, reckless endangerment, assault with a motor vehicle and DUI against Bailey. Median fought for his life for a few days in the hospital. He eventually died on October 2. Due to this, Bailey is now facing an additional charge of vehicular manslaughter.

This case exemplifies the diligence that authorities would always exhibit when investigating road incidents and how suspects/culprits will eventually face charges commensurate to their actions. Obviously, they have to be brought to justice. What’s less apparent are the legal options aggrieved parties may be entitled to in cases where DUI, reckless behavior or negligence have been established. Talking to legal experts should help victims or their families make sense of these avenues.

Meriden – Possible DUI In Recent Crash

Authorities just released more details regarding last Monday’s crash in Meriden that seriously injured a teen.

A 17-year-old was seriously hurt after the vehicle he was riding in, a 2014 Nissan Pathfinder, swerved off the roadway, crashing into two utility poles before coming to a stop in the area of 231 North Wall Street. Officials have now identified 65-year-old James Bailey of Milton Drive as the driver of the vehicle, while the teen passenger is his foster son. The victim hit his head on one of the utility poles. He was transported by responders to Hartford Hospital where he is currently listed in critical condition. Officials who arrived on-site performed a sobriety test on Bailey which he failed. He was immediately arrested and is currently released on bond. He is facing charges of assault and DUI, and is scheduled to appear in court on October 15.

Driving under the influence is, obviously, a serious offense, and authorities should always assume a strong stance against these offenders, making sure they are brought to justice. The fact that the victim in this incident is related to the suspect complicates this case, but should not detract from the fact that injured parties in this and other similar cases have legal options at their disposal. Victims or their next of kin can consult legal experts to determine what their best courses of action are.

A teen was seriously injured in a vehicle crash in Meriden yesterday.

According to reports, a vehicle driven by a 17-year-old was traveling near Baldwin Pond when his vehicle suddenly swerved off the roadway and crashed. Emergency responders immediately requested LifeStar support and the victim was airlifted to the hospital for treatment. It has yet to be determined if other vehicles were involved in the incident. The crash is currently under investigation. This post will be updated as soon as officials release more information.

LifeStar support is typically requested in incidents involving serious injuries or in inaccessible locations. Either way, this is an indicator of the severity of these accidents, which makes identifying their causes very important. Establishing liability not only allows authorities to bring culprits to justice, but also allows injured parties to pursue various legal options that can help them find closure.

Meriden – Injuries After Accident

A motorist was injured in a collision in Meriden yesterday morning.

The accident occurred on South Broad Street (Route 5). At approximately 10:55 a.m., an SUV rear-ended another vehicle in front of Meriden Hyundai. One person was transported by emergency crews to the hospital for treatment of a broken leg. Officials closed down Route 5 to facilitate cleanup operations and an investigation of the incident. According to them, the driver of one of the involved vehicles will be charged with reckless driving. The crash is still being investigated. Updates will be provided as soon as authorities release more information.

Rear-end collisions are responsible for specific types of personal injuries that can have long-term effects on motorists. Authorities need to accurately identify causes/culprits in this and other cases so that future incidents can be prevented. Assigning liability can also benefit victims of these accidents as this may entitle them to damages/compensation under appropriate circumstances and with the help of expert counsel.

Meriden – Mother, Toddler Hit By Vehicle

A mother and child waiting at a bus stop in Meriden were hit by a vehicle last Friday.

At approximately 3:50 p.m., a 21-year-old mother and her 3-year-old son were near the intersection of Summer and Wood Streets when they were hit by a black Toyota Camry driven by 25-year-old Jeidy Polanco. The driver was on Summer Street and attempted to pass the van in front of her. During the attempt, the van swerved left, attempting to turn onto Wood Street. This prompted Polanco to turn further left to avoid the van. Because of this, she lost control of her vehicle, striking the two pedestrians. Both victims sustained serious injuries in the incident and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. Both patients have since been released. The case is still under investigation, and authorities are asking for possible witnesses to contact them as soon as possible.

Pedestrian incidents almost always involve injuries. Preventing future accidents depend on the accurate identification of causes/culprits so that authorities can effectively deal with them. That said, if investigators discover reckless behavior or negligence in any of these cases, injured pedestrians may have the option of filing for damages as deemed appropriate by legal experts.

Meriden – Injuries After Highway Crash

One vehicle was involved in a highway crash in Meriden yesterday afternoon.

State and local authorities responded to a crash on the northbound side of I-91 crossing Meriden and discovered an overturned vehicle blocking two inside lanes of the highway just past exit 18. There was only one person inside the involved vehicle; the driver sustained injuries in the rollover accident. The crash remains under investigation. Authorities will release updates when they become available.

Despite the inclusion of many safety features inside most modern vehicles, rollover accidents can still result in serious injuries in many cases. It’s imperative then that authorities investigate all possible angles, including product/vehicle defects, in identifying possible causes.
