Bristol – Guilty Plea In Fatal Crash

A DUI suspect who killed another motorist in a crash in Bristol just plead guilty yesterday.

At 4:20 p.m. on August 30, 2018, 39-year-old Sergio Marques was driving a 2005 Mini Cooper when his vehicle crossed onto the opposite lane in the area of 789 Wolcott Street and collided with a 2004 Volkswagen Golf driven by then 79-year-old David Pye. Both drivers were seriously injured in the crash and were immediately hospitalized. Pye died several weeks later due to the severity of his injuries. The investigation that followed revealed that Marques was under the influence that day. Multiple charges stemming from this and other unrelated incidents were eventually filed against Marques. He recently accepted a deal which led to his counsel entering a guilty plea in court yesterday. Marques is facing at least three and a half years in prison. His sentencing is on March 24.

Regardless of plea deals and other factors, authorities will always exercise due diligence to make sure that liable parties are brought to justice so that their victims (or their families) can find closure. Authorities just released additional info regarding last week’s fatal intersection crash in Bridgeport.

50-year-old Peter Tsimbidaros was killed last week after the vehicle he was driving was struck by another vehicle operated by 50-year-old Keith Commerford. It was subsequently suspected that Commerford was under the influence at the time of the crash and was immediately apprehended. Multiple charges have since been filed against him. According to officials, Commerford was already involved in other hit-and-run incidents in the city even before this recent tragedy. He was reportedly using both cocaine and heroin and, according to authorities, should not have been allowed to operate any vehicle. At his court arraignment yesterday afternoon, a $1 million bond was ordered against Commerford.

Negligent behavior exhibited by motorists frequently results in injuries or even deaths. It cannot be overstated how important bringing these parties to justice can be in making all roads safer for everyone. Victims or their families can also pursue their own claims against these reckless individuals with the help of expert counsel.
