Lakeville – Cyclist Seriously Injured By Impalement
A cyclist competing in a Lakeville tournament was seriously injured last Sunday.
Colin Reuter was competing in last weekend’s Lime Rock Cycling Grand Prix when the incident occurred. He crashed and was thrown onto the front wheel of a competitor’s bike. The front wheel lever of that bike hit and punctured his leg. EMS units quickly arrived at the scene to stabilize Reuter and had to disassemble the bike on site. He was transported to the hospital with the detached wheel still lodged in his leg. His condition is currently listed as safe.
Most reported bike injuries are caused by driver/rider error. This particular case is worth studying because the professional cycling community has been discussing bike design and appropriate components for a while now. This incident can be attributed to improper or unsafe parts being used in professional equipment. Injuries caused by improper or unsafe components can be grounds for a damage/compensation claim.
