Westport – Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested

A man that hit a pedestrian in Westport was finally arrested yesterday.

54-year-old Gerardo Lugo of Fall River surrendered to Westport police yesterday. He is the primary suspect in the hit-and-run case involving 30-year-old Stephanie Tripp. On May 7, Tripp was walking in the area of 288 Old Bedford Road when she was hit by a BMW reportedly driven by Lugo. A witness at the scene assisted Tripp, while the driver of the vehicle stopped and got out of his car. The witness asked the driver to stay and help. Instead, the driver got back in his car and left the accident scene. Tripp sustained major injuries in the incident and was immediately transported to the hospital where she stayed until she died on the 16th of May. Lugo is currently facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash, negligent driving, and driving with a suspended license.
