Stamford – Ten-Year Sentence For DUI Suspect

A Stamford motorist suspected of DUI was just sentenced to ten years in prison.

On June 18, 2017, 54-year-old Carrie Maturo was at a stop sign on East Main Street near Quintard Terrace when her vehicle was rear-ended by a van driven by 46-year-old Elio Martinez. Maturo sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was partially paralyzed in her lower extremities. Martinez fled the crash site but was soon apprehended. He reportedly had a history of driving while under the influence. He has since pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the incident and was just handed a ten-year prison term.

Based on court transcripts and official reports, this suspect had a history of mental issues and excessive drinking. He showed remorse throughout this case and pleaded guilty to all charges filed against him. It’s in these scenarios where victims would appreciate the guilt showed by suspects, but justice would still have to be served. The bottom line: DUI is a serious offense and those injured by these negligent individuals should be given sufficient opportunities to recover, cope, and eventually find closure.

Norwalk – Prison Term In Fatal Crash

A motorist who killed two people in Norwalk in 2018 will be sentenced to 10 years in prison.

In January 2018, 50-year-old Frank Peterson III and 40-year-old Anthony Johnson, both Stamford residents, were traveling on Connecticut Avenue when a BMW collided head-on with their vehicle. Both were killed in the collision. 35-year-old Anthony Domond was driving the BMW and was under the influence of a prohibited substance at the time of the crash. He was arrested in April that same year and was charged with two counts of first-degree manslaughter. Domond has since accepted a plea deal that will have him serve ten years in prison, followed by five years of probation. His sentencing is scheduled for March 20.

The suspect in this case clearly exhibited negligent behavior by driving while under the influence. Regardless of circumstances, plea deals, and so on, authorities will always prioritize bringing liable parties to justice and making all roads safer for everyone. It pays to follow road-related cases because we are informed of the legal ramifications of these scenarios.
