Trumbull – Negligent Homicide Charge In Fatal Incident

A negligent homicide charge was filed against a senior motorist who killed another senior in Trumbull.

On February 8. 2019, 73-year-old Alexander Trup of Easton was unloading payload from his vehicle at the Trumbull Transfer Station when he was struck by a 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by 93-year-old Edward Socha. According to reports, Socha claimed he did not see Trup when he attempted to back up in the area, hitting him several times. Trup sustained critical injuries in the incident and died soon after. After a thorough investigation, a negligent homicide charge was filed against Socha. He is currently hospitalized for several medical conditions not related to the February accident and, according to his legal counsel, is unlikely to make his January 7 court appearance.

While the suspect’s advanced age and current condition should not be ignored, the fact remains that negligence on his part resulted in the death of a person. Motorists exhibiting reckless or negligent behavior have injured or killed other motorists or pedestrians in the past, so these individuals should be taken off the road. That said, people injured in similar scenarios are advised to seek legal counsel who can help them take stock of their situation and recommend appropriate courses of action.
