Southbury – Fatality In Two-Vehicle Collision

Officials are currently investigating a crash in Southbury last Friday evening.

66-year-old Elizabeth Ballard and 78-year-old Thomas Sherk were driving a Toyota RAV4 and a Nissan Frontier, respectively, on Old Waterbury Road when they collided near Dublin Road. Sherk incurred serious injuries, while Ballard died due to critical injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities have yet to provide additional info on the incident as it’s still under active investigation. This post will be updated as soon as additional details become available.

Officials have yet to identify the cause of this crash. Southbury – Vehicle Destroyed In Crash

A vehicle crashed and caught fire in Southbury last Sunday.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., 18-year-old Elliot James Murphy was driving a 2014 Subaru Forester north on South Britain Road (Route 172) when his vehicle suddenly veered off the proper lane and crashed into a tree. The vehicle then caught fire and was totally consumed by it. Murphy sustained injuries in the crash but was able to escape the vehicle. Officials have yet to discover the involvement of prohibited substances or other vehicles in the incident. This post will be updated when authorities release more info.

In many cases, the causes of single-vehicle accidents are not readily apparent. It’s in these cases where vehicle defects or failures have to be considered, among other possibilities. That said, and whatever the outcome of these investigations, if officials discover any form of negligence, aggrieved parties may have the option of filing for damages if advised by legal experts.

Southbury – Car Falls Down Brook

Emergency crews responded to a single-vehicle crash in Southbury last Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to South Britain Road at around 2:00 p.m. and found an overturned car in the Transylvania Brook. According to initial reports, the vehicle suddenly swerved off the roadway, falling into the brook. The driver sustained injuries but was able to self-extricate. No word yet on whether or not other vehicles were involved in the crash. State environmental officials were also called in after responders noticed vehicle fluids seeping from the car and into the waterway. The incident is currently under investigation. This story will be updated as soon as more info becomes available.

Some single-vehicle accidents do not exhibit immediately apparent causes. It’s in these cases where witness reports and expert investigations work hand in hand to achieve the goal of establishing accountability. Obviously, this is important so that culprits can be brought to justice. What’s also important but less obvious is the option of crash victims to file for damages if they are cleared of any wrongdoing and if these incidents involve some form of negligence.

Southbury – Fatality In Head-On Collision

An SUV and a tractor-trailer collided head-on in Southbury last Friday.

At around 3:45 p.m., local police responded to an area near the intersection of Southford and Curt Smith Roads after receiving reports of a crash in the area. According to officials, 37-year-old Pamela Sheehan of Newtown was driving her Toyota 4Runner south on Route 67 when her vehicle collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on the opposite lane. Sheehan sustained critical injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead shortly after. No word yet on the identity and status of the truck driver, though authorities reported Chris and Todd Hannan of Southbury as the registered owners of the semi. The incident is still under investigation.

Head-on collisions, even in best-case scenarios, typically result in injuries to motorists. Identifying the causes of these incidents is important if future crashes are to be avoided. Not only that, identifying culprits can enable injured parties to pursue certain legal avenues that can help them cope and find closure after these unfortunate events. Consulting legal experts will prove to be very useful in understanding these options.

Southbury – Utility Pole Crash

A car crashed into a telephone pole in Southbury last Saturday.

At approximately 11:50 a.m., emergency crews responded to the area of 1266 Main Street South and discovered a car that had crashed into a utility pole. According to authorities, 57-year-old Arlene Casivant of Southbury lost control of her vehicle and swerved off the roadway. She sustained injuries in the collision and was transported by medical personnel to Saint Mary’s Hospital. Based on evidence already collated, no other vehicle was involved in the crash. The incident is still under investigation. Updates will be provided when they become available.

Officials investigating single-vehicle accidents without obvious causes will always look at product defects, among other factors, as possibilities. Having said that, and whatever the outcome of these investigations, aggrieved parties should have various legal options at their disposal. Talking to legal experts can help victims understand what these options are.

Southbury – Fatalities After Head-On Collision

Two vehicles collided head-on in Southbury last Saturday morning.

48-year-old Diego Jimenez was driving his vehicle westbound on I-84 when he collided with another vehicle driven by 46-year-old David Hozer between Exits 16 and 15. According to authorities, Hozer was driving in the wrong direction when the crash occurred. Both motorists sustained critical injuries in the collision. Jimenez was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival, while Hozer was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where he eventually died yesterday (Sunday). Authorities are currently investigating the incident and are encouraging anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them as soon as possible.

The details already available regarding this case point to one person as the culprit. That said, investigators will still look at all possibilities before making a conclusion.  This is important to victims or their families because establishing accountability can help parties involved seek justice and find closure, particularly when reckless behavior, DUI or negligence are discovered.

Southbury – Multi-Vehicle Highway Crash Update

Authorities have just released updates regarding last Tuesday’s highway crash in Southbury.

The incident occurred on the westbound side of I-84, near Exit 14. According to updates released by officials yesterday, 16-year-old Garrett Sheehan exhibited reckless driving that led to the multiple-vehicle accident. Sheehan lost control of his 2007 BMW and hit a 2019 Chevrolet Impala. That vehicle then hit a 2016 Chevrolet Sonic, forcing it to spin out and crash into a guardrail before hitting a 2018 RAM Promaster. The pickup truck rolled over due to that final collision. The crash resulted in multiple injuries, and several motorists were taken to various area hospitals for treatment. Sheehan is scheduled to appear in court to face misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and violating passenger restrictions.

This accident highlights many of the circumstances that surround highway accidents that result in serious injuries to motorists. Reckless driving is a serious offense that requires an appropriate response so that future incidents can be avoided. It’s also important to note that victims of these unfortunate events can consult legal experts to explore various avenues related to filing for damages/compensation.

Southbury – Rollover Crash Causes Injuries

A highway crash in Southbury yesterday evening results in delays and injuries.

The accident occurred on the eastbound side of I-84 (Route 6) crossing Southbury, near exit 13. A vehicle rolled over on the highway, causing injuries. A fire truck that responded to the incident was also hit by an incoming vehicle. Authorities closed a section of the interstate immediately after the crash but have since cleared the highway. The identities of those involved and other details related to the crash have yet to be released by officials.

In many cases, rollover incidents result in injuries to occupants of involved vehicles, so determining the causes of these accidents is of paramount importance. That said, we need to be aware of our rights and legal options as motorists if ever we are involved in similar situations. Having expert legal counsel supporting us would be beneficial in many ways.

Southbury – Motorcycle Accident Results In Head Injuries

Southbury police responded to a crash on Route 6 last Monday.

Authorities investigated a crash that occurred on Route 6 crossing Southbury involving a three-wheeled motorcycle and another vehicle. The motorcycle was traveling northbound on Route 6, also known as Main Street, when it collided with the second vehicle at the Bucks Hill Road intersection. Emergency services went to the scene immediately and cordoned off a section of Route 6 between Route 67 and Dublin Hill Road. The motorcycle rider sustained head injuries in the incident.

Road accidents involving any type of vehicle that result in injury to drivers or passengers can be grounds for personal injury claims/compensation. Moreover, if DUI, reckless driving or negligence can be proven, these claims become more potent.
