The woman who was driving the car that crashed in New London last Thursday evening has been identified.
Just before 8:00 p.m., 73-year-old Susan Wheeler of Niantic was driving with a companion when her car swerved off Ocean Avenue (Route 213) and crashed into various obstacles, including a utility pole, before stopping in a residential yard. Respondents quickly arrived at the scene and brought Wheeler to L+M Hospital for treatment. She was later pronounced dead by hospital officials. Her passenger stayed at the scene of the accident. Authorities are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone who may have information about the crash to contact them as soon as possible.
