Orange – Prison Sentence In Fatal DUI Incident

A DUI suspect was just sentenced to prison in connection with a crash in Orange that killed a motorist.

In May 2017, then 45-year-old Michael J. Zawadski of Stratford was traveling on the right lane of Route 15 South when his car was hit by another vehicle just past Exit 57. 24-year-old Taylor Stanford was driving on the left lane when she lost control of her car, hitting the highway median before crashing into Zawadski’s vehicle. Zawadski was thrown off his vehicle and sustained critical injuries. He was pronounced dead soon after. Stanford also sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. A subsequent investigation revealed that Stanford was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. She was charged with DUI and second-degree manslaughter and has pleaded guilty. She has now been sentenced to 10 years in prison, to be suspended after at least three and a half years, followed by five years of probation.

The suspect in this case has shown genuine remorse, prompting the judge to show leniency in his sentencing. That said, DUI offenders should be taken off the road and brought to justice so that this type of incident can be avoided.
