Trumbull – Pole Crash Results In Injury

One person was injured after a vehicle crash into a pole in Trumbull late yesterday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Route 25 (Henry Mucci Highway) and Route 111 (Monroe Turnpike). At around 6:00 p.m., a vehicle crashed into a pole. Investigating single-vehicle accidents like this one should help authorities determine if these are caused by driver error or neglect, or perhaps by some vehicle defect or malfunction. In any case, injuries caused by defective machinery could be grounds for a compensation/damage claim.

Westport – Pole Hit Causes Driver Injury

A truck hits a utility pole yesterday, causing injuries to the driver.

Westport police and fire departments responded to a report of a crashed vehicle on Wilton Road yesterday. When they arrived, they found the pickup truck resting on a utility pole. The driver sustained injuries in the incident and was transported to the hospital by Westport EMS. The identity of the driver was not disclosed by officials, and the accident scene has since been cleared by authorities.

Single-vehicle accidents can be challenging to investigate because the driver is typically the only suspect considered, particularly in negligence and DUI cases. That said, there have been instances where accidents were caused by vehicle defects, improper road design, road defects and the like. If it can be established that the driver isn’t at fault in cases like this, he/she can file for personal injury claims with the help of legal experts.

Enfield – Car Crash After Police Pursuit

Yesterday, a car crash on Route 190 injured three people.

Connecticut State Police reported yesterday that the accident was preceded by a police pursuit. The suspect’s vehicle, a silver Honda Accord, hit some Massachusettes State Police cruisers but avoided apprehension. A pursuit ensued but was halted after the suspect’s vehicle crossed the border. Connecticut State Police continued the pursuit but eventually ended it. Shortly after, the suspect’s car hit an Acura SUV on Route 190 crossing Enfield near Taylor Road. Enfield Police reported that the suspect was taken to Hartford Hospital. The driver and passenger of the SUV, a 29-year-old woman and her 5-year-old son, were also transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. A relative of the victim reportedly said that the woman sustained a leg injury. The suspect will be charged by authorities with evading the police.

Motorists injured by other drivers on the road can file for personal injury claims in Connecticut. Incidents where negligence or DUI can be proven, in particular, are strong candidates for claims by victims.

Greenwich – Man Facing DUI Charges After Crash

Last Sunday, a man was arrested in Greenwich after his car crashed.

33-year-old Oscar Munoz, from Norwalk, was identified as the driver of a vehicle that crashed in the area of Delavan Avenue and Chestnut Street at around 2:45 a.m. Munoz was apprehended by Greenwich police and was asked to perform field sobriety tests which he failed. Authorities said he was displaying observable signs of impairment and that prompted them to arrest Munoz. He was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane and illegal operation of a motor vehicle. He was eventually released after posting bail of $250. His court hearing is scheduled on June 3.

A DUI charge and conviction should enable those injured to ask for personal injury compensation. It’s fortunate that no one was hurt in this incident. Still, it’s important to remember that our personal safety as motorists, pedestrians or professionals is well-protected under Connecticut laws.

Hartford – Pickup Truck and Dirt Bike Crash

A pickup truck used for landscaping burst into flames after colliding with a dirt bike in Hartford yesterday.

The accident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Monday on Putnam Heights near the Park Terrace intersection. The dirt bike was reportedly crushed under the pickup truck and its two riders were transported to the hospital for minor bruises and road rash. Authorities cordoned off a portion of Park Terrace around the scene immediately after the incident. Respondents were able to promptly extinguish the fire.

In accident cases like this where people sustain injuries of varying degrees, authorities can usually determine causes and liabilities rather quickly. With that mind, arming ourselves with the legal knowledge to deal with this type of situation can be beneficial.

Mansfield – Car Crash Causes Power Outage

A car hit a utility pole last Friday morning in Mansfield, causing a power interruption in the area.

The incident occurred at 2:57 a.m. on Pollack Road. State Police reported that a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK 250, driven by a 22-year-old woman, veered to the right shoulder and hit a utility pole. The driver was not injured in the crash. Maintenance workers were immediately called in to fix the damaged electrical equipment, and the road had to be closed for most of that day.

Automobile accidents sometimes cause property damage, and in this case, public services were interrupted temporarily. No one was injured in this incident, fortunately. However, in cases where reckless driving or negligence can be established, injuries sustained by parties involved can be grounds for personal injury claims.

Norwich – Driver Fled Crash Scene

A driver involved in a crash reportedly left the incident area in Norwich last Saturday.

Norwich Police and the Connecticut State Police are still looking for the driver of a damaged vehicle on Dudley Street after the suspect fled the area. The suspect’s car crashed into a wooded area just outside the road. Authorities dispatched a police dog to track the suspect but failed to find the driver. The damaged vehicle has since been removed from the accident scene. The Norwich Police Department is currently asking possible witnesses to contact them as soon as possible.

Authorities should generally be able to resolve open cases like this one with the help of witnesses and the general public. This is worth mentioning because identifying who or what is a fault here will determine if certain parties are liable for damage claims, particularly in cases where injuries are sustained by those involved.

Bridgeport – Police Cruiser Hit By Stolen Car Driven by Teen

Last Saturday evening, a police cruiser in Bridgeport was hit by a stolen car.

Authorities received a report of a stolen car in Milford. It was later identified in Bridgeport and was pursued by the police. After catching up to the stolen car, the driver tried to escape by intentionally hitting the police cruiser. The car chase eventually ended at the intersection of West Liberty Street and West Avenue. The driver, 19-year-old Raheem Dashawn Sumra, was arrested and charged with reckless driving and larceny. Two other minors were with Sumra in the car. Their guardians were contacted and were released to them. No one was injured in the incident.

It was fortunate that in this case no one was injured by the reckless actions of the stolen car’s driver. There are precedents that describe how unintended participants of these types of cases — passengers of the stolen car in this example — can ask for personal injury compensation from the perpetrator of this illegal act — the driver. Every now and then, some people become involved in criminal acts without their consent. Knowing where we stand, legally, can be beneficial.

Groton – Serious Crash on Gold Star Highway

At around 11:00 a.m. earlier today, a serious accident involving two vehicles occurred on Route 184 crossing Groton, New London County.

The Groton Police Department immediately arrived at the scene and closed a section of the highway on both directions, eventually reopening at around 2:45 p.m. The incident is still being investigated and identities have yet to be disclosed but drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash sustained serious injuries and were both transported to the Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treatment.

It’s good to know that local police departments and the state police in Connecticut are very responsive to incident reports, road accidents in particular. They investigate incident scenes quickly to determine causes and establish accountability. Still, in case we are involved in any of these events that can cause serious injury to ourselves or our loved ones, it’s good to be partnered with a legal expert so that we can immediately be informed of our rights and responsibilities.
