Bridgeport – Child Injured By Motorcyclist

A child was injured by a hit-and-run motorcyclist in Bridgeport last Friday.

Wallingford – DUI Suspect Admitted To Using Heroin

The man charged with fatally hitting a cyclist in Wallingford just admitted he used heroin before the crash.

The incident happened on May 25 when 37-year-old David Carelli, who was riding his bicycle on South Turnpike Road, was hit and fatally injured by 35-year-old Derek Fries from Meriden. Carelli was thrown off his bike and off the road. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at Yale-New Haven Hospital a short while later. According to police, Fries has admitted to using heroin before the fatal incident, corroborating the police’s discovery of drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle Fries was driving. His case is ongoing and is scheduled to appear in court on June 14.

Lakeville – Cyclist Seriously Injured By Impalement

A cyclist competing in a Lakeville tournament was seriously injured last Sunday.

Colin Reuter was competing in last weekend’s Lime Rock Cycling Grand Prix when the incident occurred. He crashed and was thrown onto the front wheel of a competitor’s bike. Wallingford – Driver Who Stuck Cyclist Charged With DUI

The driver of a car that struck and killed a cyclist in Wallingford last Saturday has now been charged with DUI.

37-year-old Donald A. Carelli was riding his bicycle on South Turnpike Road when he was hit by a 2009 Honda Civic driven by 35-year-old Derek C. Fries of Meriden. According to officials, the vehicle swerved into the opposite lane and hit Carelli. There were witnesses at the scene who saw Carelli thrown onto the hood of the vehicle that hit him before he was thrown into an embankment. Fries has now been charged with DUI and second-degree manslaughter among other charges. Wallingford Police are still asking for witnesses and anyone who may have additional information about the incident to contact them immediately.

Wallingford – Driver Hits Bicyclist

Last Saturday, a bicyclist was hit by a car in Wallingford.

37-year-old Donald Carelli of Milford was on South Turnpike Road with another bicyclist when he was hit by a car driven by 35-year-old Derek Fries who was reportedly driving under the influence.
