Lawsuit Filed After Nurse Cuts off Baby’s Finger
Veronica Olguin is suing Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center after a nurse severed her baby’s finger. In October 2011, Veronica Olguin took her then 3-month-old daughter Selena to the hospital for a fever that wouldn’t break. The baby stayed in the hospital for two days. When Selena was released on the third day, a nurse had to remove the tape attached to her IV. While cutting the tape, the nurse cut off Selena’s pinky causing blood to spray all over her and her mother. Selena was airlifted to another hospital, but doctors could not reattach her finger because the nerves were too small.
The hospital called the event an “unfortunate accident”. WTVT reports that the nurse involved in the incident is still employed at the hospital.
Veronica claims that she and her daughter are still traumatized from the event.
