Waterbury – Suspects In Car Chase Apprehended

Two people were arrested following a police chase in Waterbury last Wednesday evening.

At 9:49 p.m., 24-year-old Joseph Ferland was driving an Acura, with 23-year-old Destiny Martinez as his passenger, when they crashed into a police vehicle at the intersection of Walnut and Ives Streets. Instead of stopping, they fled the crash scene, crashing into a parked car and another police vehicle before reaching I-84 East. Police caught up with the suspects before Exit 26 — Ferland crashed his vehicle into a roadside pole. A police officer was injured while apprehending Ferland. He was reportedly elbowed in the face by the suspect. Ferland and Martinez have since been taken into custody and are currently facing multiple charges related to this and prior incidents.

In this case, the driver exhibited extremely reckless behavior, not only by attempting to flee an accident scene but also assaulting a police officer. It only makes sense that these negligent individuals are taken off the road and brought to justice.
