Wallingford – Driver Hits Bicyclist
Last Saturday, a bicyclist was hit by a car in Wallingford.
37-year-old Donald Carelli of Milford was on South Turnpike Road with another bicyclist when he was hit by a car driven by 35-year-old Derek Fries who was reportedly driving under the influence. The accident occurred at the intersection of South Turnpike and Toelles Roads. Fries, who hails from Meriden, was also caught possessing heroin and is now facing charges of DUI, manslaughter and illegal possession of a prohibited substance. The crash forced Carelli off his bike and into the woods, sustaining major injuries. He later died in the hospital. Reports indicate that Carelli and his companion were riding properly on the road. Wallingford Police are still investigating the incident and have requested anyone with information about the accident to contact them as soon as possible.
