Torrington – Fatal Crash Causing Route 8 Shutdown
Last Wednesday, May 9, a section of the northbound lane of Route 8 crossing Torrington was shut down temporarily when a car swerved and rolled over, killing its driver.
The driver has since been identified as 52-year-old Sherry Baldwin from Winstead. The accident occurred at around noon and was reported at 12:55 p.m. State and local authorities have since traced the path of the vehicle that caused the fatality. The vehicle reportedly swerved into the left shoulder of the northbound lane, crossing multiple lanes before hitting a highway sign. That final impact caused the vehicle to roll over. The driver, Baldwin, was ejected from the vehicle causing the fatal injuries. Following the accident, a section of the northbound lanes in the vicinity of Exit 46 was closed but has since been reopened. It has yet to be determined why the car suddenly swerved while running on the highway.
It can be quite challenging to find closure when automobile accidents result in fatalities. Primary plaintiffs have died in these cases, passing along the burden of enforcing accountability to family members or relatives. It’s easy to blame the driver in this case. But there have been cases where automobile defects have caused passenger fatalities. Relatives of accident victims have the right to demand accountability in cases where product defects have been established. Thankfully, laws in Connecticut are on the side of victims of neglect, malpractice, improper product design and wrongful deaths. You just need to have the right people representing you and upholding your rights.
