A pedestrian was injured after a hit-and-run incident in Stamford last Saturday.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Selleck Street and Southfield Avenue. A 17-year-old girl was crossing Selleck Street with her dog when a truck traveling north on Southfield Avenue made a left turn on Selleck, hitting her. The victim sustained injuries in the incident. Instead of stopping, 37-year-old truck driver Udiel Chinchilla-Goody left the scene. Authorities eventually caught up to Chinchilla-Goody on Sunnyside Avenue. He is now facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle outside his license class, and failure to yield to a pedestrian.

Stamford – Crash Survivor Gets $15 Million Award

Last Friday, a Stamford jury awarded a man $15 million for injuries sustained in a 2014 trailer truck crash.

In that incident, 50-year-old Jorge Amparo was driving his car when he was rear-ended by a truck weighing 80,000 lbs., driven by 48-year-old Jose Ayala. Evans Delivery Company was the employer of Ayala and owner of the truck. Amparo sustained serious injuries to his neck and lower back and has rendered him disabled since the incident. The jury found Ayala and the company negligent in the accident.

This case typifies how Connecticut laws protect the safety of all motorists in the state. In cases where parties are found negligent in protecting people and property, they can be made liable for compensation claims filed by victims.
