Seymour – Crash Update

Authorities just released more info regarding last Wednesday’s crash in Seymour.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., 65-year-old Marguerite Jachimowski was driving her 2005 Mercury Sable on Holbrook Road when her foot got stuck under the brake pedal as the vehicle approached Jacko Drive. Because of this, her vehicle was forced off the roadway and into an embankment. Jachimowski sustained serious injuries in the crash and was trapped inside her car. She was eventually extricated by responding firefighters and treated by medical personnel. The incident is still under investigation. More updates will be provided when appropriate.

Evidence already available in this case seems to point to driver error as the cause. But the fact that the driver’s foot was trapped under the brake pedal and why that happened in the first place merits a more comprehensive investigation of the incident. There have been many instances of product defects/failures causing accidents in the past, so these factors should not be overlooked despite the relative condition of the involved vehicle and the age of the operator. Whatever the outcome, if any form of negligence not associated with the driver is discovered, she (and other motorists in similar situations) may have legal options at her disposal, avenues that can help her cope and eventually find closure.
