Hartford – Guilty Plea In Pedestrian Incident

A motorist just pleaded guilty to charges related to a pedestrian crash in Hartford.

At around 10:45 p.m. on September 3, 2018, 47-year-old Chante Tucker was attempting to cross the intersection of Garden Street and Albany Avenue (Route 44) when a Chevrolet Malibu, driven by 25-year-old Keyvon Cook, hit her. Tucker was thrown about 100 feet from the car and was fatally wounded. She died the following day at the hospital. Instead of stopping, Cook immediately fled the scene. Last Tuesday, he pleaded guilty to charges of making a false statement to police and evading responsibility. His sentencing is scheduled for December 17.

While in many instances the process of bringing crash suspects to justice can take months, we can be assured that authorities will always exhaust all measures to complete their investigations and establish accountability. This process can also benefit crash victims or their families in other ways. For example, if investigators discover negligent behavior in specific cases, this might allow aggrieved parties to file for damages as an effective way of finding closure after these traumatic events.

Ashford – Multiple Injuries In Crash

Two motorists were injured when their vehicle swerved off the roadway in Ashford early Sunday morning.

At around 5:30 a.m., state and local officials were alerted to a crash on Route 44 (Ashford Center Road). According to reports, 42-year-old Melinda Mclaughlin was driving her 2010 Toyota Camry east on that road, with 36-year-old Calvin Jones as her passenger, when their vehicle unexpectedly swerved off the proper lane just before Pumpkin Hill Road, crashing into several roadside structures before falling down an embankment. Both motorists were immediately transported by paramedics to Windham Community Memorial Hospital for treatment. Officials stated that both occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and will release more details when appropriate.

While unlikely, and even with the relative safety of most modern vehicles, motorists have been injured in accidents caused by product defects. Authorities will always look at this and other possibilities when investigating these cases. It’s important to note that the discovery of any form of negligence may, under certain conditions, entitle injured parties to compensation with the help of expert legal counsel.

Mansfield – Intersection Crash With Serious Injuries

A motorcycle collided with a car in Mansfield last Saturday evening.

At approximately 7:25 p.m., 57-year-old Glenn Gondyke was riding his 1985 Harley Davidson when he collided with a 2013 Subaru Impreza, driven by 25-year-old Emma Lassy, near the intersection of Route 44 (Middle Turnpike) and Route 195 (Storrs Road). Lassy was not injured in the collision, while Gondyke sustained serious head injuries and was transported by responders to Hartford Hospital for treatment. There were no other vehicles involved in the crash. The incident is still under investigation, and officials are requesting possible witnesses to contact them as soon as possible.

This crash typifies many road accidents involving motorcycles: riders almost always sustain serious injuries. Because of this, identifying the causes of these collisions is important if future incidents are to be avoided. These things said, victims of these unfortunate accidents may have legal options they can pursue if investigators discover DUI, reckless behavior or negligence.

Barkhamsted – Vehicle Crash With Injuries

Two vehicles collided in Barkhamsted last Friday.

State and local officials converged in the area of 110 New Hartford Road (Route 44) after receiving reports of a vehicle accident. According to officials, two vehicles collided in the area, resulting in injuries. LifeStar support was immediately requested, and all motorists affected by the crash have since been tended to by medical personnel. Authorities have yet to disclose additional details pending an investigation of the incident. This post will be updated as soon as more information becomes available.

In almost all cases, authorities requesting LifeStar support is an indication of the severity of a particular incident or the inaccessibility of a crash site. Suffice it to say, officials will always exhibit due diligence in investigating road accidents, whatever the cause and wherever it is located. It’s important to take note of this because if they discover negligence in any of these cases, injured parties may have the option of filing for damages with the help of expert legal counsel.

Eastwood – Fatal Vehicle Crash

A motorist was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Eastwood last Saturday evening.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., 43-year-old David D. Frechette of Putnam was driving his 2010 Ford Fusion east on Route 44, near Route 198, when his vehicle suddenly swerved off the roadway, hitting a road sign before crashing into a utility pole. Frechette sustained critical injuries in the crash and was immediately transported to Day Kimball Hospital where he was eventually pronounced dead. The crash is still under investigation. Further updates will be released as they become available.

Single-vehicle accidents that don’t exhibit obvious causes have to be investigated for possible product defects as there have been instances in the past where these factors have resulted in accidents. That said, once authorities establish accountability, and if negligence is discovered, aggrieved parties can consult legal experts to determine their best course of action.

North Canaan – Vehicle Accident

Authorities responded to reports of a crash in North Canaan yesterday evening.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., officials dispatched emergency crews to Route 44 (Church Street) after receiving reports of a single-vehicle accident. After arriving at the scene, EMS crews quickly tended to motorists injured in the incident, while other safety crews cordoned off the roadway at its intersection with Reed Street to facilitate cleanup operations. As of posting time, officials have yet to specify the number of people involved in the crash. Updates will be released when appropriate.

Single-vehicle accidents can be the result of factors that are not always immediately apparent, so investigators will always look at all possibilities in establishing accountability in these cases. It pays to take note of this because it can also enable injured parties to file for damages under appropriate circumstances.

Mansfield – Fatality After Intersection Crash

A motorist died after his vehicle crashed in Mansfield last Saturday morning.

67-year-old Duane Farrell of Vernon was driving his 2016 Volkswagen Jetta north on Route 195 when his vehicle swerved into the right shoulder of the roadway; hitting several objects, including a utility pole; before stopping. Emergency crews quickly arrived at the scene and discovered Farrell injured and unresponsive. Cindy Farrell, his passenger, also sustained serious injuries. Both victims were quickly brought to Windham Community Medical Hospital for treatment. Duane Farrell died soon after. According to officials, both victims were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. Authorities are investigating the possibility that the driver may have experienced a medical condition prior to the actual crash. The incident is still under investigation and officials will release more information when they become available.

Investigators handling this case have so far not seen any indication of weather or road conditions causing the crash. That said, authorities will study all possible angles in any road incident so that they can accurately identify causes/culprits. It’s important to take note of this because if negligence is established in any of these cases, injured parties may be entitled to compensation or have legal options at their disposal.
