Niantic – Personal Injury Settlement

A man injured in a workplace accident in Niantic will receive $960,000.

On April 10, 2017, 26-year-old John McKim went to A-1 Auto Center, then located on 184 Flanders Road, and was asked by the owner, Christopher S. Douton, to help him with a job. McKim attempted to remove a hitch from a lifted truck by striking it with a hammer. A metal fragment flew off the vehicle and into the right eye of McKim. He subsequently underwent several surgical operations to repair the damaged eye, but the severity of his injury means the damaged eyeball might eventually be removed. In April of this year, McKim filed a civil suit against Douton and his shop but was withdrawn after all parties agreed to a settlement. To this day, McKim remains partially impaired due to the accident.
