Bethel – Responders Recognized For Helping Crash Victim

Good samaritans were just commended by state officials for assisting a motorist who was injured in a crash in Bethel.

On June 14, a motorcyclist was traveling on I-84 West when he crashed near Exit 8. He sustained serious injuries, with severe bleeding on his left leg. He was waiting for responders to arrive and might have lost his life if not for the actions of individuals who happened to be near the crash site. Edward Bell of Southbury and Patrick Doherty of Sandy Hook voluntarily stopped to assist the injured rider, applying first aid to stop the bleeding. Responders eventually arrived and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment. The rider lost his leg from the knee down, but otherwise recovered from the incident. State officials recently commended Bell and Doherty, as well as other officials and civilians, for their diligence in responding to this and other incidents, saving people’s lives in the process.

The ability of people, public officials or otherwise, to respond to various road incidents cannot be overstated. The actions of these individuals have saved lives and should be commended. That said, people who are injured in any road-related accident should be aware of their legal options, particularly in cases where negligence has been identified. Legal experts can help victims create an appropriate course of action that can help them find closure.

Bethel – Truck Crash Causes Injuries on I-84

A tire blowout caused a truck to crash on I-84 last Friday.

37-year-old Alan Dominy of Terryville was driving a truck owned by O&G Industries westbound on I-84 crossing Bethel when, at approximately 1:30 p.m., its front right tire blew out just before reaching exit 8. This resulted in the truck swerving out of control and crashing into a wire rope guardrail before falling down an embankment and into a parking lot. At the time of the crash, 39-year-old Tiffany Pelletier was driving her 2017 Volkswagen Golf at a safe distance behind Dominy’s truck. The snapped portion of the wire guardrail hit the rear window of her vehicle. Pelletier was not hurt and refused treatment, while Dominy was immediately transported to Danbury Hospital for several injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Incidents where involved parties are not considered negligent should be investigated thoroughly as there have been precedents for product/vehicle defects causing injuries to people. That said, expert legal counsel can help us understand our options in case we are involved in these types of situations.
