Newtown – Rush-Hour Interstate Accident

A highway crash was reported to authorities in Newtown late yesterday afternoon.

Officials are currently investigating an accident that occurred on I-84 East. At approximately 5:37 p.m., responders were dispatched to Exit 11 (Wasserman Way) to assist motorists injured in a crash involving a still-unspecified number of vehicles. The incident blocked off a section of the highway, and it took road crews over two hours to process and clear the accident scene. No one has been identified yet, and officials have yet to release info related to the cause of the crash. This story will be updated as more details become available.

It took longer than usual to clear this accident, and that can be an indicator of its severity. Crash responders will always have the needed resources to deal with most road incidents, and there are ancillary support teams that can assist if needed (LifeStar, for example). In any case, identifying crash culprits is a requirement if future incidents are to be prevented. This will have the added benefit of allowing injured motorists to file for damages if negligence is established.
