Do I Need A Lead Poisoning Lawyer?
You will likely want to contact an attorney for assistance with a lead poisoning claim because they will be able to conduct an independent investigation to verify the cause of your lead poisoning. After the actual cause is determined, the lawyer can then identify possible liable parties. In some cases, victims may be contacted by insurance companies for negligent parties, and you should always refuse to speak to these insurers or their agents until you have legal representation. An attorney will be able to handle all conversations with insurance companies on your behalf and begin making a good faith effort to negotiate a fair and full settlement.
Liability for lead poisoning cases can be extremely complex. A lawyer will be able to determine the best type of legal claim to file in your particular case so you can get justice. Jonathan Perkins Injury Lawyers knows that lead poisoning triggers a lifetime of concerns. Our firm can work towards a settlement that provides for all of your past, present, and future needs, but we will file a lawsuit when an insurance company proves incapable of providing adequate compensation.

Types of Lead Poisoning Cases We Handle
Lead poisoning can occur in a variety of different settings, each of which can involve different types of claims. For example, renters could have cases against landlords that did not warn them about lead-painted pipes or other types of lead exposure. Some cases may involve lead exposure in a workplace, in which case a person might very well have a workers’ compensation claim. When children are exposed to lead in schools, the school districts could be potentially liable for failure to correct these issues.
Lead Poisoning Statistics
In 2012, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defined a reference level of 5 micrograms per deciliter (µg/dL) to identify children with elevated blood lead levels. According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health 2015 Annual Disease Surveillance Report on Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control, 83,274 blood lead tests for children under age of 6 were received by the Lead and Healthy Homes.
The report showed that among children under 6 years of age who had a confirmed blood lead test, 2,156 children had levels of greater than or equal to 5 µg/dL, 233 children had levels of greater than or equal to 15 µg/dL, and 126 children had levels of greater than or equal to 20 µg/dL. The number of new cases identified among children under 6 years of age who had a confirmed blood lead test included 1,390 children who had levels of greater than or equal to 5 µg/dL, 182 children who had levels of greater than or equal to 15 µg/dL, and 98 children who had levels of greater than or equal to 20 µg/dL.
The 74.1 percent of children between 1 and 2 years of age who had a lead screening in 2015 was the highest for any year since tracking began in 1996. New Haven was identified in the report as one of the towns with between 101 and 339 poisoned children with levels of greater than or equal to 5 µg/dL, and also one of the towns with between 20 and 33 cases involving levels of greater than or equal to 15 µg/dL.
