Groton – Nighttime Vehicle Accident

Authorities responded to a highway crash in Groton yesterday evening.

At around 9:08 p.m., emergency responders converged on the northbound lanes of I-95 after a crash occurred about a fifth of a mile before Exit 87 (Route 349). Road crews had to block off the accident site to allow officials to tend to motorists injured in the incident. No word yet on the number of vehicles and people involved, but it only took responders less than half an hour to clear all lanes of obstructions. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and will release more info as they become available.

Blocking off accident sites, particularly at night, is mandatory to reduce the risk of passing vehicles hitting emergency responders and other personnel. That said, an important part of processing crash scenes is accurately identifying their causes. Responsible parties must be brought to justice so that roads can be made safer for everyone. As an added benefit, investigating these incidents will allow injured parties to file for damages in cases where negligence is involved and with the help of legal experts.
