Fairfield – Fatal Injuries After Road Incident
A man was fatally injured by a fallen tree in Fairfield last Sunday.
54-year-old David L. Schmerzler was driving north on Sturges Highway near his residence when a tree limb fell onto his car causing serious injuries. Emergency crews quickly responded to reports of the accident and found Schmerzler unconscious inside his car when they arrived. He was immediately transported to Norwalk Hospital where he died soon after. Schmerzler’s wife and daughter, who were also inside the vehicle, sustained minor injuries but were considered stable. Authorities are still investigating the incident and have warned motorists to be more careful in light of current weather conditions in the area.
Recent weather conditions in the state have caused structural damage in many areas. Despite the presence of seemingly obvious causes, authorities will always investigate all possibilities in any road-related incidents. This is noteworthy because if any form of negligence is established, parties involved will have the option of filing for damages/compensation under appropriate circumstances.
