Bridgeport – Crash Victim Identified
Authorities just identified the gunshot victim involved in last Sunday’s highway crash in Bridgeport.
21-year-old Leogiovanni Fernandes Spencer was shot in the neck and head by a still-unidentified assailant while inside a vehicle on Gem Avenue. His companion, the driver of the vehicle, immediately drove away with the intention of taking Spencer to the hospital. They were already on the on-ramp to the northbound side of I-95 when they were involved in a three-vehicle accident. Emergency responders transported Spencer to Bridgeport Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The driver was not hurt. Authorities are currently investigating the shooting on Gem Avenue, as well as the crash on Route 8/I-95 on-ramp. They have yet to determine the reason behind the shooting and are asking anyone with information about both incidents to contact them as soon as possible.
Based on details already released by officials, the highway crash did not cause the victim’s death. That said, authorities will investigate both incidents with the goal of establishing accountability as this will help the victim’s family find closure after this tragic event.
